October 20, 2004 - Every day brings us one day closer to the launch of the Nintendo DS system. November 21st marks the release of Nintendo's dual-screen, touch screen, wireless multiplayer, GBA compatible handheld system, and with a system launch comes a batch of titles to play on the device.

 

Officially, 12 games are scheduled to ship between the system's launch day and the end of the year. One of those games is Nintendo's own Super Mario 64 DS, with the rest of the pile coming from third party publishers including Activision, Electronic Arts, Namco, Sega, THQ, and Ubisoft.

The Nintendo DS games will break away from the Game Boy Advance by shipping in DVD-like shell cases, similar to what N-Gage games come packaged in. This will make the games far more "storeable" than Game Boy games could ever dream of being, since those crappy cardboard boxes tend to "squash" simply by the force of gravity pressing down on them.

Similar to what we did in 2001 with the Game Boy Advance, we've done the legwork and scored all of the package artwork of each of the games in the Nintendo DS' launch library, all in high resolution. Click on any of the packages below to see a much larger, sharper view of the artwork that will be used for the game in question.

This story will be updated as long as we can stand it. If the Nintendo DS ends up getting two bazillion games a year like the GBA did, we'll quietly retire the feature since it's next to impossible to keep track of random games like Barbie's Homeland Security Budget Organizer.

DS Changes the Rules: Players Control Games with Touch or Voice, Monitor Two-Screen Action, Compete Wirelessly with Others

 

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 7, 2004 - Imagine using the touch screen of Nintendo DS to call a secret audible at the line of scrimmage when your wireless opponent threatens a blitz. Is your Sim feeling blue? Redesign her apartment or create a pet with the touch of the screen. Can't find that last star? Use the second screen to track down your nemesis in the vast worlds of Super Mario 64 DS.

From Mario to Madden and The Urbz, familiar characters and dynamic franchises will dominate the launch season for Nintendo DS, while allowing fans to play their favorites in entirely new ways. In the first 30 days of system availability, thanks to unprecedented support from third-party publishers, players can enjoy 10 to 12 DS games covering all genres. By the end of the first quarter of 2005, the Nintendo DS library will grow to 20 to 25 games.

Nintendo DS will launch in the United States on Nov. 21 at an MSRP of $149.99.

"DS provides the road map to the future of video games," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "The overwhelming support of strong third-party titles, combined with Nintendo's flagship franchise, makes this the strongest software support for any Nintendo system in more than a decade.

"As part of an incredibly strong launch offering, players will receive a free playable demo of Nintendo's upcoming Metroid Prime Hunters game, titled Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt. Each system also offers a built-in PictoChat feature, which lets users type text or draw pictures and transmit them wirelessly to up to 15 other Nintendo DS users nearby. In all, more than 120 games are currently in development for Nintendo DS around the world. Titles available in the launch window include Super Mario 64 DS from Nintendo, Madden NFL 2005, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Golf and The Urbz: Sims in the City from EA, and a major title from Activision. Other third-party titles available during the launch period include Ping Pals from THQ, Feel the Magic: XY/XX from SEGA, Rayman DS and Asphalt Urban GT from Ubisoft and Ridge Racer DS and Mr. DRILLER: Drill Spirits from Namco.

Players can expect Nintendo-published games to retail for as low as $29.99. In the coming months, publishers will release a wide range of novel software. Nintendo's list of DS-specific first-party franchises includes a multiplayer Mario Kart, as well as Metroid Prime Hunters, WarioWare, Inc. DS, Animal Crossing, Yoshi's Touch & Go, Advance Wars DS and a new Super Mario Bros., among others.

Third-party publishers will add GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Need for Speed Underground from EA, Viewtiful Joe from Capcom, Bomberman from Hudson Soft, Frogger from Konami, a Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles title from Square Enix, and many more.

The dual-screened Nintendo DS is a portable video game and communication system that opens up new possibilities for both software developers and game players. Each dual-screened unit, which features a sharp, angular, silver-and-black design, has a built-in stylus for use on the touch screen, a built-in microphone for voice recognition and wireless capabilities via both local area network and Wi-Fi connections. Nintendo DS represents a third, distinct hardware line for Nintendo, along with Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance SP.

Each title takes advantage of the unique Nintendo DS features. For example, in Madden NFL 2005, one screen will show all 22 players on the field, while the other will display the key action. Players also will be able to compete head-to-head wirelessly. In Super Mario 64 DS, players choose one of four characters as they experience the groundbreaking Mario game in completely news ways exclusive to Nintendo DS, such as head-to-head wireless battling, new touch-sensitive mini-games and innovative control options. In Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, up to four players can compete wirelessly. Multiple control schemes take full advantage of the touch screen, giving all gamers an ideal way to play.

In addition to these upcoming titles, Nintendo DS already features compatibility with more than 550 games. Its second game port allows users to play single-player modes of games made for Game Boy Advance SP.

PictoChat, the software program that enables DS owners to sent text and pictures wirelessly to nearby DS systems, will be embedded in the system hardware. The DS system will spring to life out of "sleep mode" if it senses any other systems in the area, giving gamers the opportunity to chat spontaneously with each other. More than 100 companies have signed on to create games for Nintendo DS, while Nintendo itself is already developing its first 20 titles. Electronic Arts' Madden NFL, The URBZ: Sims in the City, Need for Speed Underground, Tiger Woods and GoldenEye are being made for the system. The complete lineup of games planned for the launch of Nintendo DS will be announced in the near future. Nintendo has confirmed that the system will be backward compatible with Game Boy Advance games, but will not support system-link multiplayer in GBA games due to the DS' lack of link cable port. Nintendo chose the United States to lead the worldwide launch of Nintendo DS because of overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic reaction from consumers and to take advantage of the holiday sales season. After the subsequent launch in Japan, the system will be available in Europe and Australia in the first quarter of 2005. "Nintendo's mission remains unchanged: expand the game experience," says Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. "Nintendo DS is the road map to the future of video games, and most clearly demonstrates the type of innovation that players demand."

Nintendo DS Box Art Revealed? Retailers have leaked out what could be the format of the Nintendo DS box layout. October 05, 2004 - Retailers such as Gamestop have posted what appears to be boxart for Nintendo DS games such as Spider-Man and Super Mario 64, two games assumed to be launch titles for the upcoming dual-screen handheld. The boxes feature a standard square format with a unique "Nintendo DS" branding along the left edge of the package. This branding is similar to what Nintendo has done with the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance software. Nintendo offered the usual "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation" statement when asked if these would be final package art. We're assuming that while the actual artwork on the box is temporary, the branding bar on the left accurately represents what will be on the box when the games hit shelves this November. As of October 5th, Gamestop has removed the "official" box of Super Mario 64 from its order page and replaced it with a mock-up designed by the site. Which leads us to believe that the artwork is possibly official packaging and that it was removed upon request by Nintendo of America. We could not get confirmation on the package material of Nintendo DS boxes. Current Game Boy Advance and past Game Boy games are packaged in crushable, disposable cardboard boxes. We're hoping that Nintendo offers a much more durable and storable solution for the Nintendo DS: plastic snap cases. When we know, we'll let you know.

que ondas!!! jaja ya tengo rato que no escribia x_X jaja pues es que me a estado dando demasiada flojera !_! bueno el caso es que el viernes me fui a las fiestas del sol jojo a ver a cafe tacvba y el domingo a ver a la ley y el proximo miercoles ire a ver a reel big fish jojo jajaja ya van 4 veces que eh ido a las fiestas del sol x_X y eso que casi nunca habia pasado asi de que eh ido tantas veces desde que recuerde jaja bueno ya me retiro tengo mucha muchisima pero demasiada hueva!!!
