October 20, 2004 - Every day brings us one day closer to the launch of the Nintendo DS system. November 21st marks the release of Nintendo's dual-screen, touch screen, wireless multiplayer, GBA compatible handheld system, and with a system launch comes a batch of titles to play on the device.

 

Officially, 12 games are scheduled to ship between the system's launch day and the end of the year. One of those games is Nintendo's own Super Mario 64 DS, with the rest of the pile coming from third party publishers including Activision, Electronic Arts, Namco, Sega, THQ, and Ubisoft.

The Nintendo DS games will break away from the Game Boy Advance by shipping in DVD-like shell cases, similar to what N-Gage games come packaged in. This will make the games far more "storeable" than Game Boy games could ever dream of being, since those crappy cardboard boxes tend to "squash" simply by the force of gravity pressing down on them.

Similar to what we did in 2001 with the Game Boy Advance, we've done the legwork and scored all of the package artwork of each of the games in the Nintendo DS' launch library, all in high resolution. Click on any of the packages below to see a much larger, sharper view of the artwork that will be used for the game in question.

This story will be updated as long as we can stand it. If the Nintendo DS ends up getting two bazillion games a year like the GBA did, we'll quietly retire the feature since it's next to impossible to keep track of random games like Barbie's Homeland Security Budget Organizer.
